Your base design is extremely important. It will be the difference between several thousand resources, trophies, or being 3-starred in a war. You’ll want to choose the right one for your situation
IMO, there are really only two base designs to bother with – the trophy or war base and the hybrid base. I’ll talk only about those here.
Trophy (War) Base Design
This base design doesn’t put any priority on resources at all. Typically you’ll find the center covered in defensive structures while the resource storages are sometimes placed towards the outside of the base.
This base design is what you’ll want to use for war to reduce the possibility of giving stars to the opponent.
Below is an example of a war base. Review it and take notice of it:

- The center has a strong concentration of defenses including heroes, town hall, air sweepers, tesla coils, and more.
- Wizard towers and air defenses are more towards the center.
- Resource storages are more towards the outside of the base.
- All non-essential items like collectors and other items that are non-defensive are on the outside of the walls.
This design maximizes defensive structures and focuses on the ensuring trophies are maintained and it’s very difficult to be 3-starred in a war.
Hybrid Base Design
This base design is the best of both worlds because it does a reasonable job of protecting both resources and trophies. This base design is what you want to achieve for typical play.
Farming Base Design
Farming bases are great if you want to save resources. They prioritize the protection of your storages and typically do not focus on protecting the town hall because trophies are not the priority.
Farming bases are critical if you are trying to fix your base after upgrading the Town Hall too much without upgrading other items.
Example Base Designs
Below are examples of base designs that are recommended to give you a solid, balanced base design. However, you’ll need to choose war, hybrid or farming based on your situation.

- Air defenses are more towards the center, but wizard towers are moved further outside so that resource storages are harder to get to.
- Resource storages are further towards the inside of the base.
- All non-essential items like collectors and other items that are non-defensive are on the outside of the walls.
This isn’t extremely different than the trophy (war) base, but it’s different enough to save you quite a bit of source by simply moving the storage a little further towards the middle of the base.
